"3ABN Is Not ... Funded by ..." ASI
3ABN Website Denies Funding from "Any ... Organization"
In an interesting, apparent development in the ongoing allegations regarding 3ABN president Danny Shelton,
it now appears at first glance that Danny may be seeking to distance 3ABN from Adventist-laymen's Services
and Industries (ASI), according to the official 3ABN website:
"3ABN is not owned, operated or funded by any church, denomination
or organization, so people from all cultures and backgrounds appreciate 3ABN programming."
("About 3ABN")
|
Given the many large grants 3ABN has received from ASI Missions, Inc. over the years, including an anticipated
grant of $150,000 in 2007, one is left with several possible scenarios:
- ASI Missions, Inc. is not an organization, and thus the
funding 3ABN receives from ASI is not really coming from an organization.
- While ASI Missions, Inc. is an organization, a $150,000 grant is
not really funding, and thus 3ABN does not receive funding from ASI.
- 3ABN's current notice on its website is false, for it has
and does receive funding from an organization known as ASI.
- Though 3ABN is in dire need of money right now, it is currently planning on
turning down the $150,000 grant ASI was going to give it in 2007.
The last scenario is highly unlikely, for as we said to start with, this interesting development is only
apparent, and the appearance is only at first glance. The above quotation has appeared unchanged
on 3ABN's website since roughly early 2001, so any distancing
from ASI occurred back then rather than now. Thus, for more than six years, 3ABN's website has stated that
3ABN doesn't receive funding from any organization while at the same time 3ABN has been receiving a number
of large grants from ASI.
ASI Project Offering for 2007
So how significant is the 3ABN's funding (that isn't funding?) from ASI Missions, Inc. (which isn't an
organization?)? Here's a list of 40 projects that are slated to receive grants of fixed amounts in 2007,
grants totaling $1,269,000:
- $190,000 – Youth for Jesus
- $150,000 – Three Angels' Broadcasting Network

Thus, out of the stated sums 40 various projects are to receive, 3ABN is to receive 11.8% ($150,000)
of the total projected offering of $1,269,000. Of the other projects, 30% of the 40 with stated sums
are to receive $10,000 or less, and 72.5% are to receive $25,000 or less.
With 3ABN slated to receive $150,000, 6 to 30 times more than 72.5% of the 40 projects with stated sums,
It becomes more difficult to explain how "3ABN is not ... funded by any ... organization."

How quickly will 3ABN be changing its website so that it no longer says,
"3ABN is not ... funded by any ... organization"?
